Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French... What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct.

InCACBI supports the academic freedom of the ASA

The Indian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (InCACBI welcomed the decision of the American Studies Association (ASA) in December 2013 to boycott Israeli academic institutions in protest against the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, infringements on the right to education of Palestinians, and restrictions on the academic freedom of Palestinian scholars and students in the West Bank, Gaza, and Israel.

We know how hard it is to develop a critical discussion on the US-Israel relationship within the US, and also how important it is to do so. It is not surprising then that ASA is being subjected to a campaign of vilification, intimidation and discrimination by the well-organised Zionist lobbies in the US. These lobbies have attempted to cover up Israel’s violation of elementary democratic rights of the Palestinian people by terming all criticism of Israel as “anti-Semitic”.

InCACBI extends its support and solidarity to ASA, who have taken this bold step protesting Israel’s human rights abuse and violations of international law based on its own scholarship and research. The campaign against ASA is an attack on academic freedom. Academic freedom guarantees not only the individual right of faculty members to express their views, but also the autonomy of professional associations. This is what is now under attack. InCACBI supports the ASA’s right to act according to the will of the membership.
